Herbal study is a very important topic in Sowa Rigpa, Traditional Tibetan Medicine. More than 70% of the pharmacopeia is based on herbs. This study is diffused in the whole program, with basic herbs and formulas being introduced in the first module of Materia Medica in a concise way allowing going in depth into herbalism. Specific herbs and advanced formulas are then gradually introduced in subsequent Pharmacology class.

Our Pharmacology studies consist of two modules with the following content:

TibMET 3/TTM 2 Materia Medica (9 h)

     •   Categories of materia medica

     •   Study of 100 herbs and other substances

TibMET 3/TTM 2 Pharmacology (21 h)

     •   Pharmaceutical aspects

     •   Principles of application

     •   Pacifying and Purgative medication

     •   Formulation

After foundational Materia medica studies, this second module is a more comprehensive with more herbal entries and in-depth explanations, following the Final/Subsequent Tantra chapters 3 to 12. And also the study of the main formulas used in Sowa Rigpa clinical practice, based on the Oral Instruction Tantra.

The course consists of eleven online classes (Total 21 hours).

It is conducted in English.
